Room with a View: This was the view from my room in the Hotel Toko. In this picture you can see the overpass of the Shinkansen line. I tried getting the Shinkansen in the photo but it was too fast.
Hakata station is the southern terminus of the Shinkansen line, although in the next few years the Shinkansen will be extended Southwards to Kagoshima and Westwards to Nagasaki1. On the fastest Shinkansen (called the Nozomi) it only takes about 5hrs 8mins2 to make the 1069km3 trip to Tokyo.
