Guest Room: In this photo you can see the guest room of Ritsuko's parent's house. You will probably notice that there is not much space between the bed and the wall. You will notice that the wall it is made from thick paper an is decorated with a traditional Japanese painting. The other thing you probably noticed is the floor it is covered with tatami mats. What is unusual about this room is that there's actually a western style bed. In Japan mostly people just put out a futon mat on the floor to sleep on, there usually isn't enough space in a house for a western style bed.
The walls in this room will open up to make a larger room when combined with the next room. At this time Ritsuko's brother and his wife and their two children were sleeping the next room so the sliding walls were closed. Ritsuko was sleeping in a room at the other side of the house with her parents and I had the guest room to myself. In case you were wondering the next room is about twice the size of the guest room, but I will show a photo of that room on another day.
Well we all went to bed early on this day because the next day would be New Years Eve and we wanted to get plenty of rest before that.
