Playing Emperor: After dinner we started doing some origami making Samurai hats out of the newspaper. When I got my hat I got a blanket and used as a robe and said I was the Emperor and we all had a good laugh, but in all seriousness in Japan I was treated like a king. Unfortunately most Australians don't treat Japanese so well when they come here.
As the midnight hour approached everybody (the whole town) became quiet as they waited in reverent silence for the temple bells to toll in the midnight hour. Then it came the "booonnnnggg booonnnggg" of the temple bells and the delayed sound of the bells from more distant temples. No fireworks, no drunken revelry, even the Boso-zoku and Yanqui were quiet for a good while.
That's all for this day I only had four photos to show, so "Akemashite omedetou" (Happy New Year).
