Nice Spot for a Picnic: The next stop on our drive through Kirishima-Yaku National Park was the Ebino-kogen (kogen is Japanese for plateau). It was definitely a nice spot for a picnic although since it was winter the grass was brown, but it was a nice sunny winters day and about 5 degrees Celsius!
Actually it is such a nice place that the current Emperor Hirohito and Empress Michiko had their Honeymoon there. It is also a place where actress Meryl Streep has been to twice as any local will proudly tell you.1
The only bad thing about Kirishima-Yaku National Park was since it was a National Park what are all the hotels, souvenir shops, and vending machines doing there? Aren't National Parks supposed to be places of unspoiled nature?
