Temple on the Mountain: After a stroll around Gion it was off to Kiyomizu-dera which is one of the most famous temples in Kyoto. Built on the side of a mountain the whole temple complex is quite expansive there are a lot of steps to climb up and buildings to see. Since it is one of the most famous temples it also one of the most popular for sightseers and can be quite crowded, however it wasn't so bad the day I was there because it was a working day and it was the middle of the winter, but still would be considered crowed by Australia standards.1

The photo above was taken at the top of the complex. This building is famous for the wooden beams (see lower part of the picture) which support it on the side of the mountain it is also a good place to take in the view of Kyoto.
