PERFORMANCE
The Johndec duct mounted Fume Scrubber is a compact unit
and has a high performance rating compared to its overall size.
While designed principally to handle perchloric acid fumes, it
can be adapted to suit many other fume scrubbing applications.
It is developed especially for mounting directly above Johndec
Fume Cupboards. The unit can also be adapted for fitting to adjacent
ductwork or to other manufacturers' fume cupboards when circumstances
dictate.
The unit is normally supplied with a water wash supply from packaged
recirculating system located below the fume cupboard. The recycling
plant, for use with the scrubber unit, consists of a recycling
tank, pump assembly and linking pipe work to form an enclosed
system. Effluent levels can be checked before the discharge is
drained and the water in the tank can be dosed with the appropriate
neutralising agent.
The unit is designed to fit directly to the flanged outlets of
the Johndec range of aerodynamic fume cupboards, although in some
circumstances, it can be fitted up to one metre above the outlet
without the necessity of sprays in the duct.
FUME SCRUBBER
The unit is moulded in one piece from chemical grade
plastics. It incorporates two filter pads in removable frames,
together with a spray jet section, all internally mounted. Both
pads and spray bar can be viewed through a clear PVC inspection
panel.
NEUTRALISING TANK
The tank and removable lid is manufactured from chemical
grade plastic. The tank is fitted with a water supply inlet and
plastic ball float valve. Incorporated in the side of the tank
is a sight glass to enable a constant check to be kept on the
fluid level, without removing the lid. A connection for the mist
eliminator drain return pipe is provided in the upper part of
the tank, which also has an overflow pipe, connected to the main
drainage pipe work.
PUMP
The pump, resiliently mounted on the above tray, is a
leak proof magnetic driven, polypropylene centrifugal chemical
pump. It is coupled to a totally enclosed 240-volt motor and is
equipped with thermal overload protection. Its ceramic rotating
spindle is supported at both ends by fluorocarbon bearings.
PIPE WORK
All pipe work, valves, etc. are pre-plumbed between recycle
tank and pump; pump to spray section of the fume scrubber; drain
from scrubber to recycle tank; and overflow from the tank to drain
valve connection. It is disassembled and left ready for easy reassembly
on site.
ADVANTAGES
The Johndec Fume Scrubber can remove up to 98% of perchloric
acid fumes before they enter the main extraction ductwork. The
old traditional method of fitting sprays throughout the entire
run of the extraction ducting is questionable in its efficiency.
As well as being suspect in this respect, they are cumbersome
and expensive to install.
All services to the Johndec unit are contained within the fume
cupboard and its support unit, with easy access to pump, tank,
etc.
The unit is self-contained and all components are visible. Inspection
maintenance is simplified. The traditional duct washing method
requires inspection of each spray nozzle throughout the extraction
system and this can be hazardous in itself.
Problems of draining water throughout the entire system are avoided.
The unit consumes less water when the closed circuit recirculating
wash system is installed.
Before discharging and draining the washing solution from the
recirculating tank, it can be tested to ensure compliance with
the requirements of the various authorities.
Overall installation time is reduced.
For most applications the Johndec Fume Scrubber unit will be
less costly and more efficient.
